When God created the universe, He vibrated His absolute, unchanging, pure consciousness into the thought of the ever-changing relative, and the sound Om vibrated forth. Within this sound of Om existed aspects of time and space. Ever-changing time is the idea of change within the ever unchangeable. Ever-divided space is the idea of division within the ever indivisible. Time created ‘past, present and future’, ‘now and then’, and space created ‘here and there’, ‘this and that’. Time and space always are ideas within the mind of God.
To know God, we go beyond the relativity of time and space, beyond the pulsation of thoughts and ideas, beyond even Om, and arrive at the pure awareness that is Satchidananda (absolute Being, Consciousness, Bliss). This is meditation, knowing the ever present, all pervasiveness of God, beyond time and space. Our spiritual journey is a path from the relative, ever-changing, divided universe to the absolute, never-changing, indivisible Source of mind that is God, our true Self. We exist in consciousness, and we merge back into it.
We do not meditate to attain God, but we meditate to perceive God, who is eternally attained as our Self. When we transcend thought in meditation, when we stabilize that state in Brahman Consciousness, we realize God. We remember that all that exists is God and we are one with God.
