Behind the changing world of forms there is one eternal reality – one consciousness, source, sustainer, and essence of all that exists. Though we experience life as many separate things, the deepest truth is unity. The purpose of God incarnating as a human being is the establishment of the permanent, all-pervasive experience of unity. To discover that there is but one purpose in life – Self-realization that is unity consciousness – is the beginning of true wisdom. The permanent experience of that unity is supreme wisdom.
Human life finds harmony when it aligns with the sacred order woven into existence. Mental harmony (peace of mind), which is alignment, allows for happiness. Each thought, word, and action either aligns with or violates this order. When we live with integrity, compassion, selflessness, and awareness, we move in rhythm with the universe itself. When we act selfishly or unconsciously, we create imbalance within and around us. Thus, life continually invites us to live with responsibility and reverence.
Our deepest identity is not the restless mind, the body, or the changing personality. Beneath all change is the true Self – the One consciousness (God) that is the witness of our mind. Ignorance, which is separation, differences and the egoic identity of individuality, binds us to fear and suffering.
All actions (mental and physical) bear fruit. What we sow in intention and deed shapes our state of consciousness, our mental atmosphere, and our experience of life. Yet we are taught a profound way of freedom: to act fully, sincerely, and skillfully, while releasing attachment to outcomes. In this way, work becomes worship, and duty becomes a path to liberation. The highest worship is meditation because when we go deeply within and experience the stillness of mind, what remains is the true Self, Brahman, God, pure awareness. This action establishes us in unity.
Realization does not require withdrawal from life, but a transformation of how we live within it. Action performed in wisdom does not bind – it purifies. Devotion (love) unites the heart with the Divine. Pure knowledge illumines the path. All three become one movement toward freedom.
Realization does not require withdrawal from life, but a transformation of how we live within it.
Wisdom returns us to three simple truths: 1) remember the sacred (God) 2) perform our duty (which includes our spiritual practices) and 3) live without attachment and aversion (thus surrendering the fruits of our actions). All of life – every experience without exception – is our spiritual path.
The divine reality we seek is already present within us. To experience this Presence is liberation. When this knowledge awakens, fear dissolves, compassion naturally arises, and one sees all that is as an expression of the same sacred essence. Then, what was separate, what was different, is realized as Self.
When supreme wisdom dawns, we realize that God, Guru, Mantra and Self are One. We realize that God, wishing to create, manifests the universe, made from His intelligence and power, within Himself. All consciousness is His. All energy is His. All that exists is Him. Our consciousness is His. Our power is His. Our body, mind and emotions are Him. His play includes forgetting and then remembering that we are Him.
Therefore, on our path, we walk through life with awareness, act with integrity and offer every action as a sacred act. Our purpose and goal lie within. When knowledge, action, and devotion unite, the human spirit discovers its freedom and its unity with the eternal.
